Responding to and managing High Conflict Clients

Gold Coast | Workshop

About the event

People experiencing Family Law matters are trying to manage the stresses and high emotions associated with:

  • Relationship breakdown / Family breakdown
  • Separation / Divorce
  • Post Separation parenting decisions
  • Property / asset division

They are all experiencing major losses, major life changes and varying degrees of conflict.  Lawyers, FDRPs, therapists, counsellors, psychologists, practitioners who work with people during this stressful time need to be skilled in relationship transitioning; managing communication and negotiation between the parties; managing the resolution of their conflicts and are increasingly being confronted with managing parties engaged in what we term ‘high conflict’; that is, high conflict people.

The aims of this workshop are to assist practitioners to:

  • Understand ‘normal’ conflict and how this is different to ‘high’ conflict and how this impacts our work and our role,
  • Understand the emotional and behavioural reactions of High Conflict People and how this impacts in Family Law matters,
  • Learn additional skills to manage High Conflict People,
  • Understand how this affects us and what self- protection strategies could assist our self -care,
  • Understand some insights from neuro-science.
